Better part of eleven years Ruby has been by my side. I found out she had cancer last year and the last month was the first time she actually showed it. Without a doubt Ruby was the best of the best. She always did what she thought was right and always admitted when she was wrong. Unconditional love and devotion were her keystones and her every breath proved that.
We didn’t always get along, but we never went to bed angry. She loved BBQ potato chips and ice cubes. Always played snowplow in the deep winter snow. Her favorite walks were the ones that were muddy because she loved the belly rubs that came from trying to get her clean again.
Since I retired in 2012 there wasn’t a single day that we didn’t start together and end together. Both of us shared midnight and 2am potty runs, along with midnight cookies and snacks. While she loved her purina incredibites, grilled chicken and steak were almost never refused.
Despite having trouble with her rear legs, guests were always greeted with roundhouse zooming and welcome-home barks. Ruby also spoke, at least when she was getting really impatient with you. Growl-half-quiet-bark-whiny noises while she danced from paw to paw sitting, in her mind at least, perfectly still.
Ruby, Boo to her family and close friends, will be remembered.
She is loved, cherished but never missed.
She will live in our hearts forever.
Blessed Be.
