So five or six months ago I was startled by a pair of medium sized snapping turtles wandering around my yard. It didn't take them long to find that perfect spot and at that point I became the midwife to a clutch of eggs. About two weeks ago the first little turtle appeared. I was so excited I didn't get any pictures. I did however start checking the nest three or four times a day looking for signs of escape. Today was the day. This one was about 2/3 the size of the first one I had seen. The little one breached the next about 11:55am and took about 2 hours to make the run down to the lake 40/50 feet away and about 6 feet down. Despite several stumbles and falls the little turtles journey was successful.
